In both English and Spanish we use commands or mandatos for giving instructions.
A simple way to form commands in Spanish requires knowledge of the three different action word (verb) endings. The endings are:
“ar” as in comprar – to buy
“er” as in comer – to eat
“ir” as in escribir – to write
To make a command, drop the last two letters of the infinitive (“to”) form of the verb and replace them as follows:
ar———————> e
hablar—————–> ¡Hable! Speak!
er——————–> a
comer—————-> ¡Coma! Eat!
ir——————–> a
escribir————–> !Escriba! Write!
Be careful! There are some irregular verbs that don’t follow the rules. You have to memorize these forms.
ir——————-> ¡Vaya! Go!
Venir—————-> ¡Venga! Come!
Decir—————-> ¡Diga! Speak!
